After graduating University in 2009, moving to Ottawa to live with my mother and work at Zellers while I figured out what I wanted to do with my life, an opportunity to join a friend of mine on a trip she'd been planning for a few years popped up and I couldn't say now.
She'd bought a 1985 Dodge Camper Van that she'd lovingly named Bebe and had what she called The Van Plan, which was to ramble around America as cheaply as possible. We were both broke, having just spent four years cramming our minds with knowledge, so the idea of spending a few months travelling to places I'd never been before seemed like an amazing idea.
I decided to join her in San Francisco, flying out in January, and planning to stay with her until we reached New Orleans. We would camp in parking lots, couch surf where possible, work under the table if we ran low on funds, and try and take as many tiny highways as we could to see the real America.
